We would like to make an announcement but I feel its necessary to follow it with a disclaimer. So here goes: Eddie has accepted an offer with TST Media in Minnesota and we will be leaving the East Coast and the Yankees in the next couple of months.
Now here’s the disclaimer: I had very little to do with this decision. Sure, my family’s location is the reason we’re choosing to return to MN and I have hundreds of reasons to be excited about this move. However, it was Eddie who started us on this path and Eddie who made it happen. I can imagine the look on many of your faces, as you think about how persuasive (read pushy) I can be and how Eddie is and always will be a giant Yankees fan. You’re right about both of those attributes but here’s where I want to be clear. If you think that I have the ability to change Eddie’s priorities or that he would prioritize the Yankees over his family, then you overestimate me and underestimate him.
Through the haze of learning we were having triplets, there are only a couple of things I remember, the first thing Eddie said to me is one of them. After being certain I wasn’t messing with him, he said “I need a new job.” He has known since we started this adventure that now there are four little leaguers who need his time and attention. You see, Eddie hasn’t changed, but life has. He will always cheer for the Yankees, always look over your shoulder at a restaurant to check the score, and always get a little bit pouty when his teams fall. Now, he also raves about Zombie drawings, takes ridiculous amounts of pictures at Karate class, and is willing to miss a play or two to read extra pages at bed time.
Sure Eddie has regrets about leaving the Yankees but they are all about his fantastic colleagues. And just so you know he hasn’t strayed too far from the guy you know, last night when we were listing the things we were most looking forward to in Minnesota, Eddie said “Taking my family to a baseball game and getting to watch with you.”
Eddie will miss his first love, the Yankees, but I’m glad he’s found a way to spend more time with his “twue wove,” us.
